Eat My Family by Roddy Nicoll — front cover

Eat My Family

A life told in meals — and the people who became them. The masterpiece that turned out to be eight tins of Campbell’s; the half-slice of hospital toast that beat every Michelin meal; a suckling pig that wouldn’t fit the oven. Funny, warm and quietly true.

About the press

Free Rein Press is a small independent publisher based in Glasgow. It publishes memoir, food writing and craft — books made carefully, in small numbers, to a standard the trade takes seriously.

The name comes from inside the first book: a childhood given free rein of the kitchen. Say it aloud and you may hear the other spelling. Both are intended.

The press publishes under its own ISBNs, distributes to bookshops and libraries through the book trade, and sells directly from this site.

The press device — a rein, let go.
It appears on the spine and copyright page of every Free Rein book.
